Meatphysics

By: Ana Borralho & João Galante
Premiere: Lungomare Gallery / Manifesta7, Italy - 2008
Duration: 60"

Meatphysics is a performance addressing the themes body / mind, outside / inside, emotion / feeling, me / others, true / false.
The two performers are naked, standing side by side, with their eyes open, rather motionless. Each of them has a microphone attached to their throat (making live sounds of breathing, swalling, gigling, etc…).

The audience can experience these sounds through headphones in front of the performers establishing a very intimate and direct relationship with them (eye to eye). The performers are just there, with no or very subtle changes in their physical behaviour. during the whole duration of the performance.

With Meatphysics, the sounds of hiccups, laughs, sights and internal movements are amplified constructing a physical soundtrack, which is contradicted by their facial passivity. They seem to suggest a physical annulation. Almost as if it was asked to the audience to forget the form and to think the content.
